1 Year course – LEVEL III CERTIFICATION
IN COMMUNICATION DESIGN – WEB DESIGN OPTION
MJM WEB DESIGN SCHOOL OF PARIS, NANTES, RENNES & STRASBOURG – FRANCE
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROFESSION
Web Designers transform a publishing idea into an interactive work of a professional, entertainment or education nature and this in accordance with the target market. They organise the information to propose one or more navigation paths and focus on the ergonomic dimension of words. They take into account marketing issues, SEO, commercial or non-commercial content and adapt their designs as a result.
The students are trained in the design and creation of interactive websites in accordance with standards for an effective integration into the professional world. They must be able to design and develop web interfaces by assembling different media such as text, images, animations, but also videos and sound through the effective application of specialist software (Dreamweaver, Flash, After Effects, Adobe Première, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and the use dedicated code (XHTML, CSS, Action Script, PHP, etc.). Students of the MJM Design School acquire the techniques to produce new mediums of communication that will allow them to become tomorrow’s new players in web design.

Infiltrating organisations such as web, communication, advertising, publishing and printing agencies
As web professionals, the students learn from the outset, based on a given subject, the steps involved in establishing a benchmark. By way of an audit, they research what already exists in terms of internet sites on a specific theme and draw up a list of positive and negative points. The student then moves on to analyse the target market and from there defines a graphic charter. Studying the competition is a fundamental step in the successful design and implementation of an internet site,
Through the detailed study and exploration of various existing sites on the market such as showcase sites, merchant sites, portals and cultural sites, the students are immersed into high quality and purely professional techniques. They learn to master and understand the importance of SEO, they look at hosting on professional sites and quickly learn how to publish online.
Once the graphic charter and site map are in place, the student uses Photoshop and Fireworks software to learn about the static implementation of various graphic elements that will form part of the future site. We then offer them the choice of development by teaching both html and Flash in parallel.
Students learn how to develop their sites, which is an essential stage in the successful operation of the website, using Dreamweaver, and insert all their content through graphic cutting. The integration of style sheets (CSS) and an introduction to PHP complete this component of the course.
For the development of animated sites (full flash) or a portfolio, students practice with dynamic animation software known as Flash until they are fully competent. They also have the opportunity to insert animations and start to familiarise themselves with html language
The training on these two pieces of software is complemented by an introduction to Adobe Première and After Effect used for inserting and editing videos. We also look at dynamic sites and databases (PHP language) communicating with, for example, other commercial sites.
Throughout the course the future web designers are monitored and supported by different teachers in the development of their own portfolio (or personal book) which will, at the end of the course, be put online thanks to MJM Graphic Design School’s dedicated server.
At the same time, during the year, students will develop a professional website on a topic chosen by them and approved by the teachers, which will be presented at the end of the year together with a paper dossier which will cover all the skills learnt during the course.
